Dream Maker
Supergiant Games began in 2009, when Amir Rao and Gavin Simon quit Electronic Arts, moved into the same house, and started making Bastion. Everything the studio ships is painted by hand, with art director Jen Zee's saturated, high-contrast illustration sitting under a fixed, angled camera. Bastion's narrator reacts to each move the player makes, which made the voice part of the picture instead of a layer on top of it. Five games in, the genre keeps changing and the hand never does. Hades, the breakout, is a roguelite where dying advances the story instead of stopping it, and Hades II arrived in 2025 as the studio's first sequel.
